Just watched The Young Victoria with Mommy today. It was so nice. “Highly Recommended” says Ma.
In a nutshell, this movie is a wonderful historical romance between Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. At first I thought the romance was just a side thing. I mean, based on the title, I thought it would focus much on Queen Victoria’s reign when she was just 17… all that feminism and stuff. The movie also shows that being a strong woman, a Queen more so, doesn’t necessarily mean carrying the burden by yourself and not letting your *ahem* husband help you out. Which is exactly what Victoria learned with Albert. :)
There’s not much drama (thank god) but there are heart warming scenes that gets you hooked. For me, it’s much much much better than The Other Boleyn Girl. The story itself is interesting (no need for too ambitious sisters such as Anne Boleyn who may or may not be that of a b/witch in real life) and more historically accurate. It’s also very sweet but not too much. The setting is also so beautiful! … And so are the gowns. :))
Princess Victoria: Do you ever feel like a chess piece yourself? In a game being played against your will.
Prince Albert: Do you?
Princess Victoria: Constantly. I see them leaning in and moving me around the board.
Prince Albert: The Duchess and Sir John?
Princess Victoria: Not just them. Uncle Leopold. The king. I’m sure half the politicians are ready to seize hold of my skirts and drag me from square to square.
Prince Albert: Then you had better master the rules of the game until you play it better than they can.
Princess Victoria: You don’t recommend I find a husband to play it for me?
Prince Albert: I should find one to play it with you, not for you.
[[See! That’s why I don’t like Twilight anymore. Bella’s so weak and Edward’s too… obsessive and controlling.]]
Queen Victoria: [sobbing] I’m so sorry! I thought I was going to lose you!
Prince Albert: I don’t think he was a very good shot.
Queen Victoria: Why did you do it? So stupid, why did you do it?
Prince Albert: I had two very good reasons. First, I am replaceable and you are not.
Queen Victoria: You are not replaceable to me!
Prince Albert: Second, you’re the only wife I’ve got or ever will have. You are my whole existence, and I will love you until my very last breath.
[[Now THAT’S being honestly sweet. Funny how I didn’t find it cheesy at all.]]
Now I really really really want to study European Studies at Ateneo!
ok. sorry for the random movie review and rambles :))
In lieu of Katy Perry’s postponed concert, MTV Philippines, the producer of Katy’s concert “Katy Perry Live in Manila,” is planning to hold a benefit concert instead. Joining Katy is American Idol runner-up David Archuleta.
Apparently, this is what they described to be the “bigger and better” version of the postponed concert.
According to MTV Philippines, the net proceeds of the benefit concert will go to the Philippine Red Cross. The concert will be held on October 17, 2009. However, the date is still tentative.
For those questioning the veracity of this article, I got this from an MTV insider. Also, after a short while, Tim Yap made this public via one of his networking sites.
Caught on TV- Man rescued in a rubberboat asked, "28 na ba ngayon?" Cameraman: "Opo, 28." Man somberly replied, "Bday ko na pala." Rescuers who were paddling hard turned to him in surprise before slowly s...inging, ";ha...ppy.. birth..day... to you..." Even in the midst of devastation the Filipino spirit never ceases to acknowledge and celebrate the gift of life.
